GOP GOVERNOR FEARS LIBERTARIAN ELECTORAL VOTE PLAN

Dan Johnson - April 04, 2024

“Gov. Pillen realizes that if a third party can get just a few hundred thousand Nebraskan votes, they could stop both Donald Trump and Joe Biden from getting 270 electoral votes and becoming president. He’s running scared because he realizes my plan will work and he needs to do everything he can to stop it.”

OMAHA, NE - In response to growing third party pressure, one GOP governor is calling on his legislature to reform a key law in his state: how it counts its electoral votes.

Nebraska and Maine are the only states in the nation that split their electoral votes; Nebraska has three separate electoral votes that can be won, Maine has two. Now, growing pressure from Robert F. Kennedy, Lars Mapstead, and other third party and independent candidates has Nebraska’s governor seeking to reform his state’s laws before the general election.

“The bill proposes the reinstatement of the winner-take-all system for electing presidential candidates” Gov. Pillen stated. “It would bring Nebraska in line with 48 of our fellow states, better reflect the founders’ intent, and ensure our state speaks with one unified voice in presidential elections.”

Libertarian Presidential Candidate Lars Mapstead, who touted his plan to use Nebraska’s split electoral votes to stop Joe Biden and Donald Trump from getting the 270 required to win on the Michael Smerconish Show last week, said:

“Gov. Pillen realizes that if a third party can get just a few hundred thousand Nebraskan votes, they could stop both Donald Trump and Joe Biden from getting 270 electoral votes and becoming president. He’s running scared because he realizes my plan will work and he needs to do everything he can to stop it.”

With national polls between Donald Trump and Joe Biden remaining nearly deadlocked, GOP and Democratic states are doing what they can to ensure that no third party or independent candidate can spoil this election.
